Point

This is a shukubo located near Nishijin and alongside the Horikawa River in Kyoto.

You are free to participate in the morning service (from 6:30 in the morning). They have no bath, so you have to use the public bath. There is only a futon, a table, air conditioning and hangers in a room. They don't serve meals. The room cannot be locked. I had a good time although it was troublesome to bring my valuables with me every time I went to the bathroom. The people at Myoren-ji temple were very frank and they told me a lot of things before I left. Especially impressive was a woman who was over 60 years old. She said, "I will continue to be energetic and work hard!" which really encouraged me.

She really was a mother figure. Upon my departure, she told me which bus I should take. It was a temple that I was really happy to stay at. She kindly showed me the "Stone Garden of Jurokurakan (the 16 disciples of Buddha)" and "Fusuma (sliding screen) pictures of the four seasons," which was a really good experience for me.
